27 November 2019

More than a hundred guests attended the concert, on November 5th, by the string orchestra “Consonância” in the majestic setting of the National Palace of Sintra in Portugal.

Organised by AGBU Partner Portugal-Armenia Friendship Association and the Municipality of Sintra, with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the concert presented works by Komitas, based on folk and religious songs, arranged by the renowned composer and cellist Grigor Arakelian. The programme also included original works by G. Arakelian inspired by ancient melodies, dances and ritual songs.

Founded in 2016, under the artistic direction of the violinist Elena Ryabova-Mkhitarian, the “Consonância” string orchestra, composed of Portuguese and Armenian musicians, aims to disseminate the musical heritage of Armenia and Portugal, alongside the classical repertoire, from the Baroque period to the present day.
