AGBU Europe partners with Bozar – Centre for Fine Arts - in conceiving and promoting the Armenian film programme for the 2nd edition of “Bridges. East of West Film Days” devoted to the cinema of countries bordering Eastern Europe
For the second edition of “Bridges. East of West Film Days” at Bozar, Armenia makes its entrance as a country covered by the festival with a selection of films, programmed in close partnership with AGBU Europe. Two feature length films, in the presence of their directors, and 4 short films will be shown during the course of the festival.
After the Cinémathèque Française in Paris and The Eye in Amsterdam, David Safarian will be in Brussels to present “Hot Country/Cold Winter”, his latest film set during the energy crisis of the early 90′s in Armenia. Harutyun Khachatryan, co-founder of the Golden Apricot International Film Festival (GAIFF), will also be present in Brussels to introduce his film “Border” made in 2009, a poetic reflection on the consequences of the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. Finally a session of short films will focus on the young generation of filmmakers, growing between poetry and political activism, with the presence of Seda Grigoryan, director of the road-documentary “Way Back Home”, featuring Arsinée Khanjian and Atom Egoyan.
The film programme of the festival also includes cinematic treasures from the past, from the region. In this context, it will screen the newly restored version of Paradjanov’s short film “Hakob Hovnatanyan” about the 19th century painter from Tbilissi.
This contribution of AGBU Europe in the promotion of Armenian films abroad is a meaningful way to pursue AGBU’s support to ongoing initiatives and projects in Armenia led by GAIFF Pro (Cinethink, C2C Platform) to help the career of emerging directors and to foster the development of co-productions in the region.
