“Orpheus and Eurydice” in memory of pianist Tateos Sandzhakian – Plovdid, Bulgaria – November 30, 2016

6 December 2016

In honour of late Professor Tateos Sandzhakian (1936 -2015), Plovdiv lawyer Georgi Mihailov, AGBU YP-Plovdiv, AGBU-Sofia – with the financial assistance of the company “Stema” – organized a boutique concert followed by a cocktail.

Graduated from the Bulgarian National Conservatory, exceptional pianist Tateos Sandzhakian became an honorary citizen of Plovdiv, after a decision of the City Council on September 29, 2016.

Throughout his life, Tateos remained connected with the musical institutions of the Plovdiv – the opera, the philharmonic orchestra – and was a long time accompanist of the Plovdiv Choral Society choir named “Yerevan.” In addition, Tateos has participated in numerous events dedicated to the Armenian communities in the country and abroad.

More than 130 people gathered at the chamber hall of the Cultural House of Plovdiv, the “Boris Hristov”, on November 30, to assist at a unique performance of the opera “Orpheus and Eurydice” by Christoph Willibald Gluck.

The audience witnessed a real triumph of love, brilliant performances and a moving homage to the memory of a great man and artist.

The opera singer and long-time member of AGBU, Ms. Silva Dolmayan, who has lived and worked for many years with Tateos, shared her emotions with the spectators and some exciting moments of their long friendship. In honour of the professor’s memory, a minute of silence was also observed.

Guests had the opportunity to enjoy the remarkable performance of the tenor-altino Andrey Naydenov – also a partner of the music giants Jose Carreras and Andrea Bocelli – the soprano Tsvetelina Maldzhanska as Eurydice and the extremely beautiful and rich timbre of Zhaneta Stegareva-Terziyska as Amur. The role of Orpheus was executed brilliantly by our prominent opera singer Andrew Naidenov, tenor-altino, who sang on the European concert halls of Lisse, Teatro Real and Concertgebouw. The piano accompaniment was provided by Zornitsa Petrova and Momchil Enchev at the violin.

The audience literally remained breathless during the whole concert of these amazing artists.
