ACAB assembles 28 national delegations for 20th Euro-Armenian Games in Barcelona

April 25, 2014 – The Armenian Cultural Association of Barcelona organized the 20th Euro Armenian Games during the Easter holidays from the 18th till the 21st of April 2014, at the Cem Marbella stadium, Barcelona.

There were 28 delegations from around 550 Armenian athletes, who have arrived from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands, The United Kingdom as well as Lebanon, Turkey and The United Arab Emirates. During those two days they have competed in basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis, chess and backgammon. The games created a great interest and enthusiasm of the Armenian and the Spanish people.

The parade of the participating teams and the awards ceremony took place at the stadium on the 20th of April 2014. Speeches were delivered by Mr. Khoren Terterian, Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Armenia in the Kingdom of Spain, Mr. Sebouh Baghdoyan member of the World Committee of the Pan-Armenian Games, Mrs. Asdghig Alexanian, Honorary Consul General of Austria in Alexandria, and charge of Austrian Commercial and Cultural Affairs and member of AGBU Europe, Father Sasoon Zmrookhdian, Vicar General for the Pontifical Delegate in Spain and Portugal of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Mr. Stepan Der Bedrossian vice-president of the World Committee of the Pan-Armenian Games was attending the parade of the participating teams and the awards ceremony. The awards ceremony followed the speeches of our honorary guests.

At the same evening, a gala dinner was organized to our guests and participants in the Barcelo Sants hotel ballroom, during this event special awards and souvenirs were presented. The opening speech was delivered by Mr. Sevada Sahakyan president of Armenian Cultural Association of Barcelona. Mr. Khoren Terterian, Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Armenia in the Kingdom of Spain reported Mrs. Hranush Hakobyan’s (Minister of the Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia) welcome greeting. Then the AGBU US Nubar Paris team was recognized for having the highest number of athlete participants during the Euro Armenian Games. This special prize was awarded by the Ministry of the Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia.

President of the World Committee of the Pan-Armenian Games Mr. Ishkhan Zakaryan’s welcome greeting was read by Mr. Sebouh Baghdoyan.

The speech of the Spanish authorities was delivered by Mr. Xavier Amador, Director of Institutional Relations of the Quality of Life, Equality and Sports in the municipality of Barcelona.

The Association with Gratitude souvenirs has honored to the family of Mr. Juan Jose Sanmartin Gil the former honorary council of the republic of Armenia in Catalonia and benefactor Mr. Ladoush Hounanian.

During the gala dinner, Mr. Arsen Grigoryan a singer who was invited from Armenia with his band, performed Armenian songs and music.
